Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 Neuro Fuzzy Review: Where the Classic Wins (and Trails)

The Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 Neuro Fuzzy (5.5-cup, 680W, $210 to $250) and its 10-cup sibling NS-ZCC18 (1,000W) are what I would pick if I wanted Made-in-Japan assembly, a fold-down carry handle, a retractable cord, and Softer/Harder buttons for white rice. For my own counter, though, I chose the flat-top matte-black Zojirushi NL-EAC18BA because it includes dedicated buttons for Jasmine, Quinoa, GABA Brown, and Cake at a lower price.

Overview & Specifications

White Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 5.5-cup Neuro Fuzzy Made-in-Japan rice cooker with front LCD screen and fold-down carry handle on a walnut countertop

Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker & Warmer (5.5-Cup)

5.5 cups uncooked (11 cooked) · Micom (Fuzzy Logic) (680W) · Removable inner lid (3 parts to wash) · Carry handle · Made in Japan

Why I'd pick this

Households of 2 to 4 people who want Made-in-Japan assembly, a retractable power cord, a fold-down carry handle, and Softer/Harder settings for white rice.

When I'd pass on it

Buyers who want dedicated buttons for Quinoa, Jasmine, Cake, or GABA Brown rice, or who prefer a flat-top matte black body over the classic white body.

Trade-off I noticed: Older menu layout lacks the dedicated Quinoa, Jasmine, Steel Cut Oatmeal, GABA Brown, and Cake settings found on the newer NL-EAC series.

Why the NS-ZCC10 Stays Popular After 15+ Years

Note: I own and use the Zojirushi NL-EAC18BA in my kitchen. The hardware details below for the NS-ZCC10 come directly from Zojirushi America's manual (zojirushi.com/app/product/nszcc) and long-term owner reports.

The NS-ZCC10 has stayed on best-seller lists for years because its 680W (5.5-cup) and 1,000W (10-cup) heaters and lid sensor stop the two things that ruin rice in cheap pots: lid water dripping onto the rim (bechabecha) and rock-hard keep-warm bottoms (kachikochi).

What Most Guides Miss: NS-ZCC10 vs. Newer Zojirushi NL-EAC Series

Because the NS-ZCC10 menu layout is over 15 years old, it is missing several grain settings that Zojirushi added to the newer flat-top NL-EAC10 and NL-EAC18.

Reviewer's note: Why I picked the black NL-EAC18BA over a white cooker:

My old cooker was white, and I fell in love at first sight with the black Zojirushi NL-EAC18BA design. The surface isn't slick and glossy (tsurutsuru / ツルツル), but a little rough (zaratsuita / ざらついた), and the lid-release button on top makes it very easy to use. Having built-in menus for quinoa, cake, porridge, brown rice, jasmine rice, and sushi rice is wonderful. Just know that if you move your cooker around a lot, the NL-EAC18BA has no carry handle, while the white NS-ZCC series has one.

Common Questions

Is the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 still made in Japan?

Yes. Both the 5.5-cup Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 and the 10-cup NS-ZCC18 Neuro Fuzzy models are made in Japan, unlike the China-made NS-TSC10 and NL-EAC10/18 lines.

Does the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 have a Quinoa, Jasmine, or Cake setting?

No. Because the NS-ZCC10 uses an older menu layout, it does not have dedicated buttons for Quinoa, Jasmine, GABA Brown, or Cake. For those 11 menus, I prefer the Zojirushi NL-EAC10 or NL-EAC18.

What makes the NS-ZCC10 inner pan different?

The NS-ZCC10 uses a rounded spherical nonstick inner pan with two stay-cool plastic side handles, so you can lift the hot pot out of the cooker with bare hands.
